About
The By & By is a Utah County-based roots rock and Americana jam band known for high-energy live performances, deep improvisational jams, and lyric-driven songwriting that moves fluidly across styles and emotional registers.
The group was first formed in 2023 by vocalist and songwriter Garrett Sherwood (Deep Love Rock Opera, Cinderbiter) and vocalist Chase McKnight (Queenadilla), and re-emerged in 2025 with a stellar full lineup: Caleb Wall on keys (ImprovBroadway, Die Shiny), Al Deans on drums (Walter Ergo, Creep), Sean Peterson on bass (Starcrossed Loners), and TJ Finch on violin and mandolin (Riddim). Together they bring a rare blend of musicianship and chemistry — every show a mix of tight songcraft and open-ended exploration.
Drawing inspiration from Van Morrison, Nathaniel Rateliff, and Dave Matthews, The By & By weave folk-rooted melodies, jazz-inflected improvisation, and rock energy into a sound that feels both timeless and distinctly their own. In a short time they've already built a devoted following, in part through Sherwood's connection to Deep Love Rock Opera — a beloved Utah production with thousands of dedicated fans — that has brought a ready-made and passionate audience to the band.
With performances at Utah Arts Fest, Kilby Court, and the Velour Battle of the Bands already under their belt, and a debut recording expected in late 2026, The By & By are a band on the rise. The name says it all — the old way of saying: "hold on, we're taking you somewhere."
